The color blue represents both the sky and the sea and is associated with open spaces, freedom, intuition, imagination, inspiration, and sensitivity. And how can we forget that blue is associated with the Indian cricket team?
Team India has worn the blue jersey since the launch of colored clothing in ODI cricket. Have we as fans and Indians ever questioned why this is the case, despite the fact that it has become a familiar sight?
The reason behind this can be found in the national flag. Saffron, white and green is the primary color in our nation. Saffron was dismissed because it could be associated with the political groups and white could not make a perfect visual effect in the center and green was our neighboring country, Pakistan's jersey.
The colour blue, which is the Ashok Chakra and is ideal for clothes. However, the colour hue has varied over time depending on the sponsor, tournament, and even year, but blue has remained a constant. The year that India lifted the World Cup started off simple. The team’s first cricket jersey had no sponsor name nor bold text. They wore all plain white jerseys. The cricket teams wore white at the 1987 World Cup too.
The 1992 World Cup was the first time that teams added color to their jerseys. The Indian cricket team had an indigo-colored jersey with colorful stripes on the shoulders. As many as nine teams participated in the World Cup that was held in Australia and New Zealand. This was also Sachin Tendulkar’s first world cup.
The colour blue became so popular among Indian fans that they started the trend with "bleed blue." As India's cricketing progress grew, the word 'Men in Blue' became a symbol of the country's national power to rely on its knights on the pitch.
They were all our own Men In Blue, whether they won the 1985 World Championship in Cricket and the 2011 World Cup. Wearing a blue jersey was also the source of this expression.
